Woodside’s seismic testing plans on hold

Following an emergency injunction on Thursday, Woodside Energy must suspend its planned seismic testing for its Scarborough gas project off the West Australian coast while a challenge over its legality is under way.

Meanwhile and in what activists have labelled a ‘watershed moment’, the US state of California has sued five of the world's largest oil companies - ExxonMobil, Shell, BP, ConocoPhillips and Chevron - on the grounds that these firms have caused billions of dollars in damages and misled the public by minimising the risks from fossil fuels.

And a new analysis shows that the world's largest transnational companies are failing to provide evidence to back up their environmental restoration claims. This finding comes as submissions to Australia's senate inquiry into greenwashing have shown that many industry groups - including a fossil fuel peak body - are pushing back against changes to advertising regulations.
