Warming oceans officially linked to declining Antarctic sea ice levels

New research has officially linked warming oceans with declining Antarctic sea ice levels, with the impacts set to be a struggle to recover from. Climate scientists say that an urgent reduction in fossil fuel emissions is the only solution.

The International Energy Agency’s chief says that world demand for oil, gas and coal is forecast to peak this decade for the first time due to the "spectacular" growth of clean energy technologies and electric cars. However, much stronger and faster policy action globally is still needed to put the world on a 1.5 degree aligned pathway.

And in a bid to tackle the growing waste in our oceans, a group of scientists is hoping to create a new type of 3D printed plastic that can break down in seawater within a month, with the first prototype set to be tested over the coming months.
