# Labor tipped to form majority govt

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese looks set to form a majority Labor government, with the ABC projecting that a Labor victory in the Melbourne seat of Macnamara will give Labor at least 76 seats — the minimum required to form a majority government.
Australia’s biggest polluter, AGL, is under increased pressure to close its ageing and unreliable coal fleet even faster, after the trouble company abandoned its demerger, leading to the exit of AGL’s CEO and chairman.
And Pacific Islands leaders have rejected a Chinese security and trade pact while calling on Beijing to do more to address its “greatest threat”: climate change.

Scott Morrison was fond of saying that to keep prices down and supply up it was necessary to “sweat the \[coal\] assets”. His government called on gentailers like AGL to back this strategy but at some point though the sweating of assets begins to resemble the flogging of dead horses.
