# Queensland looks to cut emissions by 75 per cent by 2035 in rare show of bipartisanship

Queensland looks to cut emissions by 75 per cent in a decade and a renewable energy target of 80 per cent by 2035 was enshrined in law on Thursday. Labor and the LNP both voted for the former, in a rare show of bipartisanship in an election year to make Queensland a renewables superpower.
Tanya Plibersek’s appointment as environment minister sparked widespread optimism among conservation groups, most of whom list new national laws as their top priority to fix what she declared were “broken” environmental protections. That was in March 2022. Last week, almost the entire conservation movement felt deep disappointment in the minister’s failure to deliver on that promise.
The predator-proof fence gives endangered eastern quolls a second shot of survival after the first "rewilded" population was destroyed by predators in 2021. A million-dollar, 4-kilometre fence will give endangered eastern quolls another chance at life on the Australian mainland.
