Climate damage to the Reef can't be hidden from UNESCO

On Friday the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park confirmed that the Reef has experienced its sixth mass coral bleaching event, on the eve of a UNESCO mission to monitor the Reef’s health. The Federal Government has been furiously lobbying to prevent the Reef from being listed by UNESCO as “World Heritage in Danger” from climate change - with climate-driven bleaching taking place in front of UNESCO’s eyes, the government can’t hide the damage for much longer.

Gas miner Woodside has also been caught telling porkies, with a CSIRO report debunking Woodside’s claims that its gas will ‘reduce emissions’. CSIRO’s found that, contrary to the gas industry’s spin, increasing Australia’s gas supply will prolong coal, displace renewables and increase emissions in Asia without a global carbon price.

In a surprise move, Energy Minister Angus Taylor said companies contracted to supply Australian Carbon Credit Units to the government could instead trade them on the open market.

Foreign oil dependence a 'massive vulnerability' as defence experts call for EVs, green transport
Defence analysts have called for Australia to speed up its transition to electric vehicles and other forms of green transport, saying the country's heavy reliance on imported oil is a "massive" security weakness.

A Newcastle-based company is set to spend $1 billion on renewable energy projects this year, as the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy gathers pace.

Woodside contradicts CSIRO report debunking key climate claims
Australia’s largest energy producer Woodside continued to claim that gas produced from its biggest gas project would reduce global emissions despite the claim being undermined in research commissioned by the national science agency.
