Chevron's admissions are an indictment on carbon capture technology

United States oil and gas giant Chevron has acknowledged its flagship carbon capture and storage project off Australia's north-west coast is operating at just a third of its capacity as problems bedevil the facility. Analysts and critics say this raises more questions than answers for the use of the technology, with Climate Energy Finance’s director Tim Buckley adding that Chevron's admissions are an indictment on the technology.

And a report published by the UN’s World Meteorology Organisation has warned that El Niño is likely to combine with climate change to fuel an unprecedented increase in global temperatures across the next five years, with a 98% chance that one of those years will be the warmest ever recorded.

Meanwhile, the low-vision community is calling for electric vehicles to be fitted with noise-emitting devices to improve safety. This would add to the level of noise produced in Australian cities, however Vision Australia says any resulting noise pollution would be minimal.
