# Vanuatu’s president calls for a global treaty to end fossil fuels

The president of the Pacific island of Vanuatu has become the first head of state to make a call for a global treaty to phase out the use of fossil fuels, warning of the "debilitating consequences" of climate change.
Tomago Aluminium, New South Wales' largest energy consumer has announced an initiative to transition from coal to renewable energy by 2029, which will also provide a major boost to the construction and development of the $100 billion Hunter Renewable Energy Zone.
And in another weekend of ripper renewable records, wind and solar accounted for 66.8% of the sunshine state’s energy demand on Saturday morning.
