The UN IPCC climate report is out - and it's not looking good

Today’s news is - as it should be - dominated by the UN IPCC climate report, which sets out in the starkest terms, what awaits the world if we don’t make deep, rapid cuts to greenhouse gas emissions - and it is not looking good, with the Pacific facing some of the worst, and closest impacts.

Pressure is mounting on the Australian government to act - they have responded with their usual “technology not taxes” line, making hollow claims that Australia is “playing its part”, as study after study ranks Australia at the back of the pack on climate action. Will this still wash with the Australian people, and our international counterparts, in light of the IPCC’s findings?

IPCC report shows ‘possible loss of entire countries within the century’
A new report by Greenpeace Australia Pacific has highlighted the stark climate injustice faced by the Pacific region, which is one of the lowest carbon-emitting regions in the world

Global warming of 1.5 degrees could be reached a decade earlier around 2030, major climate report findsThe IPPC projected the increase in global surface temperature for five emissions scenarios - ranging from wildly optimistic to outright reckless - and identifies best estimates for 20-year periods with mid-points of 2030, 2050 and 2090.

Coalition’s misleading tactics will no longer cut it – the IPCC report shows our future depends on urgent climate action
The Morrison government’s ‘technology, not taxes’ mantra ignores the fact that taxes pay for technology, and affordable technology can make a difference, writes Adam Morton.

IPCC report 2021: ‘Cost of inaction keeps mounting’ says Biden amid ‘irreversible’ sea level rise warning
An authoritative and sweeping new report from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned the world is running out of time to make drastic cuts to greenhouse gas emissions and avert devastating climate breakdown.

IPCC report shows Earth's temperature is rising, and the heat is on Scott Morrison and Coalition's climate policy
On climate change, the pressure is building: the time left to take action is diminishing, the political constraints are tightening and global despair at Australia's approach is growing.

Exxon Kicked Out of Climate Group It Helped Form
The Climate Leadership Council has kicked founding member ExxonMobil out, following a Greenpeace exposé that caught an Exxon lobbyist admitting the company’s endorsement of a carbon tax was nothing more than a “great talking point”.

Energy stored in electric car batteries could power your home or stabilise the grid — and save you money
Vehicle to Grid tech can help stabilise the grid, while also giving EV owners a new use for the big new batteries they bought with their car.
