# It's net-zero day, but with scant details on how we'll get there

Today is the day Australia gets a net-zero target, after Cabinet met last night to discuss details. What these details mean in terms of impact on reducing Australia’s emissions remain to be seen. What we know so far is that Resources Minister Keith Pitt will return to Cabinet, and that there will be ‘safeguard reviews’ in place to check on the economic impact of a net-zero target on regional communities.
While this all plays out, a new UN report reveals that greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere hit an all time high last year. Despite the political games in Canberra, reducing emissions is a matter of deadly seriousness.
