The age of the plug in hybrid is coming to an end

Latest industry figures show EVs accounted for a record 9.4 per cent of new car sales in June, up from 1.7 per cent a year earlier. The age of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) appears to be drawing to an end, at least in Australia, with plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) forming a significantly diminishing fraction of total EV sales.

This news comes amidst the EV Council’s release of a new report on the importance of fuel-efficiency standards and how electric vehicles will make driving cheaper. Their research shows that Australian drivers could save up to $10,000 by driving an electric vehicle if the federal government’s proposed fuel-efficiency standards are implemented.

And six people - including three teenagers - were arrested in NSW by police after they allegedly secured themselves to machinery and conducted a protest about the government's "frightening" rate of deforestation whilst holding placards such as "saving forests is climate action", "no forest no life" and "koalas need trees".
