Dockers continue gas sponsorship despite climate change impacts

Prominent climate scientist Bill Hare has expressed his shock and dismay at the Fremantle Dockers decision to sign a new multimillion dollar deal with Woodside Energy for another two seasons, with this decision coming despite accelerating impacts of climate change brought on by the fossil fuel industry.

The International Energy Agency has found that a record growth in solar energy and electric car sales since 2021 has left open a narrow path to net zero emissions in the energy sector, however renewable capacity will need to triple within the coming decade to remain on track.

And Anthony Albanese has signalled he will do more to accelerate the transition to low emissions after the Indigenous voice referendum has concluded, declaring the “right decisions” are needed to ensure Australia emerges a winner in the global race to renewable energy.
