Temps set to soar across NSW

After weeks of rain, summer is making a belated arrival in NSW with temperatures set to soar this weekend, as well as the bushfire threat, as the country braces itself for the hottest week this summer.

A "cutting edge" technology that sucks water from the humid Northern Territory air is being trialled, giving a glimpse of how water-dependent industries may one day be able to operate in the outback without having to rely on sucking those resources from underneath the earth.

And a new and alarmingly high Arctic temperature record of 38 degrees Celsius has been confirmed by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
