Senate committee says renewable fund shouldn't support coal

A Senate oversight committee could dash the Morrison Government’s hopes to gifting more taxpayer money to the fossil fuel industry. The Liberal-controlled committee said that plans to allow the Australian Renewable Energy Agency to fund non-renewable technologies, including carbon capture and storage, should be scrapped.

Electricity produced by a remote coal power station that Clive Palmer is proposing to build in Queensland would be four times more costly than the current market price, a study shows.

And Norway's state-owned coal company will close its last mine in the Arctic Svalbard archipelago in 2023.
