# Queensland braces for more wild weather

North Queensland is being inundated by torrential rain and there’s more to come as Cyclone Tiffany closes in on Cape Yorke.
Meanwhile, the lingering impacts of Cyclone Seth, which hit Queensland last week, have prompted the CBD of Maryborough, in the Fraser Coast region, to be evacuated with warnings up to 100 businesses could be flooded.
And despite a concerted global push to dramatically reduce coal use, the NSW government is set to consider applications for a surge in coal mine expansions that if approved would generate more than three times Australia’s total emissions.

Category two Cyclone Tiffany is expected to cross the Queensland coast between Cooktown and Lockhart River in Far North Queensland today, bringing with it destructive winds and heavy rain.

Despite global efforts to drive coal out of the economy and net zero ambitions, the NSW government is set to consider applications for a surge in coal mine expansions across the state that if approved would generate 1.8 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, more than three times Australia’s total emissions.
