# Push to shelve Woodside’s dirty North West Shelf

In a stark reminder of the deadly heat facing Australia and the world, a severe heatwave in Western Europe saw UK temperatures exceed 40C for the first time on record - melting runways, buckling railways, and destroying houses and cars.
And Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has confirmed his government’s climate bill, which enshrines the 43 per cent emissions reduction by 2030 and net zero by 2050 targets, will be introduced when the new parliament opens next week.

Greenpeace Australia Pacific is appealing the decision to extend the life of Woodside’s North West Shelf gas processing facility on the grounds that the EPA has failed to properly consider the climate and environment impacts of extending the gas facility for a further 50 years.
