NSW gets $4.7b in renewables funding

Keeping with the string of energy news the past few weeks, the Albanese government has committed $4.7 billion to help fund renewable energy infrastructure in NSW. The funding will go towards building transmission lines from the state's renewable zones to the main energy grid.

Australians could have 30,000 new charging stations to plug in their electric vehicles by 2029, under a plan from one of the country’s largest electricity distributors, Ausgrid. The project would see chargers connected to power poles in urban and suburban areas, as well as popular tourism spots and regional towns.

Australia is well positioned to be a global leader in the production of green hydrogen energy, but needs to first calculate how much water they will need and where it will come from. A new report from Deakin University highlights the exceptional amount of water required to produce hydrogen electricity, and calls for careful planning and involvement with Australian communities to help green hydrogen decarbonise the country.

COP Loss and Damage funds can’t come soon enough for Niger

The African nation of Niger has been experiencing desertification of their land leading to communities competing for dwindling resources. Niger’s environmental minister, Garamou Saratou Rabiou Inoussa said the UN Loss and Damage fund needs to become operational quickly, and allow for a mechanism that would favor countries such as Niger.

With only a month since the Mulgrave River in Cairns was covered in dead fish, locals have reported another mass fish death - right in the CBD. Higher water temperatures as a result of climate change are suspected to be the reason for these deaths.
