Climate activist commended by magistrate after protesting Woodside’s Burrup Hub

Fossil Fuel giant Buru Energy is seeking to push ahead with plans to establish a floating liquefied natural gas facility anchored off the Kimberly Coast after a pre-feasibility study found it could be a timely and cost-effective way to process and export the resource from the Canning Basin. It comes ten years after activists and traditional owners blocked Woodside’s James Price project. 

And, New South Wales faces a “momentous task” to decarbonise its electricity sector and will need to accelerate the state’s transition to renewables says new energy minister Penny Sharpe. Four of NSW’s five coal-fired power plants are scheduled to retire over the next 11 years in a state that sources 70% of its energy from non-renewable sources.
