# 3C of devastation as research shows extent of Coalition’s catastrophic climate commitments

The Morrison government’s climate change commitments are consistent with more than 3C of global heating, bordering on 4C, which would lead to catastrophic global damage. With Labor’s targets in line with 2C of heating, both major parties’ targets ignore the proven risk of irreversible climate impacts if 1.5C is passed.
Leading coral reef scientist Professor Terry Hughes has called on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to release maps showing the extent of coral bleaching, after the key reef snapshot report was delayed with no reason specified.
Anthony Albanese has ruled out increasing Labor’s emissions target to secure power in the event of a hung parliament, despite demands from the teal independents to increase the party’s goal from 43 per cent to 60 per cent by 2030.
